On a different note, let's not forget that Fairy Tail is not meant to be a romantic anime in any way. As much as I hate to admit it, I highly doubt there will ever be any "canon" couples, ever. Sure there are a few (such as Jerza) that are ALMOST canon, but unless Mashima says otherwise, none of them are official.
They'd both get to spend time with him and as long as they set a few ground rules, I think they could both handle it.
